Greg Berlanti, who has previously worked on DC TV series such as Arrow and The Flash, may be in the running to head up DC Films as the company’s answer to Marvel’s Kevin Feige.

A report exploring the ongoing overhaul of DC Films under new Warner Bros. Discovery CEO David Zaslav has revealed Greg Berlanti’s name is being mentioned as a possible candidate to head up DC’s new film and TV strategy. The role would be akin to that held by Kevin Feige at Marvel Studios.

Greg Berlanti has a lengthy history with DC, having previously worked on several DC TV series both in and out of the Arrowverse, and working as a co-writer on 2011’s Green Lantern.

Greg Berlanti’s DC Future

Following his work on series such as Arrow, The Flash, Black Lightning and Titans, Greg Berlanti is currently developing a Green Lantern series for HBO Max, described in the new report on DC Films as his “biggest, most ambitious DC adaptation” to date.

It’s clear that Greg Berlanti is familiar with the DC Universe and has a proven track record in bringing the comic company’s characters to life. In the realm of TV, he has already emulated much of Marvel Studios’ successful crossover formula – the Arrowverse has featured regular crossover episodes and ushered in huge events such as Crisis on Infinite Earths.

The report from Variety notes that, in the wake of David Zaslav citing Marvel’s Kevin Feige as the template for his approach to DC, “Greg Berlanti … has been loudly whispered as a possibility for the role.” However, the report also notes “no one from Warner Bros. has actually approached his camp.”

There is also uncertainty over whether Greg Berlanti would take up the job were it offered to him. Berlanti has certainly been kept busy as a producer on multiple DC TV series and, as the report says, “insiders believe that the superstar producer wouldn’t be interested in going in-house.”

Despite this, amongst DC’s many troubled attempts to build out a cohesive cinematic universe in the vein of the MCU, there can be little doubt that few efforts have done as well as Greg Berlanti’s TV attempt in the Arrowverse. Were he given DC’s full catalog of characters and a blockbuster budget, Berlanti would likely prove a worthy candidate for the job.

Here is the synopsis for DC’s next film, Black Adam:
