‘Guardians Of The Galaxy Vol. 2’ Concept Artist Shares Early Designs

Marvel Studios’ Visual Development Supervisor and Concept Artist Andy Park has taken to his Instagram account to share a couple of awesome concept art images from his work on both Guardians of the Galaxy and Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2.

First up, we have an original early concept design of Zoe Saldana’s character Gamora for the first Guardians film. As Park states in his post, they played around with the idea of Gamora having a different skin color other than green. In the comics, the team features multiple green characters and while Gamora ended up remaining green in the film, Drax, who was green in the comics, was given a more gray skin color for the MCU.

You can check out Park’s early Gamora design below:

Park also shared a close-up shot of a keyframe illustration he did of the Guardians taking on the Abelisk, as seen in the trailers for Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2. This one featuring Gamora and Rocket Raccoon.

Directed by James Gunn, Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 stars Chris Pratt, Zoe Saldana, Dave Bautista, Vin Diesel, Bradley Cooper, Michael Rooker, Karen Gillan, Pom Klementieff, Kurt Russell, Sean Gunn, Elizabeth Debicki, Glenn Close, Michael Rosenbaum and Sylvester Stallone. Here is the sequel’s official synopsis:

Set to the backdrop of ‘Awesome Mixtape #2,’ Marvel’s Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 continues the team’s adventures as they traverse the outer reaches of the cosmos. The Guardians must fight to keep their newfound family together as they unravel the mysteries of Peter Quill’s true parentage. Old foes become new allies and fan-favorite characters from the classic comics will come to our heroes’ aid as the Marvel cinematic universe continues to expand.

Marvel’s Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 hits theaters May 5, 2017.

Gamora is probably the only character from the GotG movie that i dislike, even Ronan, it doesn’t matter how generic he was, i don’t “hate” him but i don’t like him either.

I hope with Vol.2, which i’m seeing today i can change my view for the character, Gamora is such a badass in the comics.

PS: The yellow spots on the eyes could really help improve the design for the character.
