Concept art for Guardians of the Galaxy: Vol. 2‘s take on Ego has surfaced, revealing a different look for Ego in a pivotal scene from the film.

Andy Park, who is the Marvel Studios Visual Development Supervisor and also a Concept Artist, shared an image from the pre-production stage of Guardians of the Galaxy: Vol. 2. This piece of motion art shows Ego as he regains his form following being blasted to pieces by Peter Quill. In the post where he shared the image, Park commented how this image was put together with the help of the app Werble, which adds the floating lights element that helps show the reconstitution process. While this is not the same Ego that we see in the final film, in fact, it looks closer to the David Hasselhoff avatar that Ego tries to torment Peter with, the concept of Ego reforming from light is something that did remain in the final film.

Directed by James Gunn, the film stars Chris Pratt as Peter Quill (Star-Lord), Zoe Saldana as Gamora, Dave Bautista as Drax, Vin Diesel as Groot, Bradley Cooper as Rocket, Michael Rooker as Yondu, Karen Gillan as Nebula, Sean Gunn as Kraglin, Pom Klementieff as Mantis, Elizabeth Debicki as Ayesha, and Kurt Russell as Ego.

Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 is now available on home media.
