‘Guardians Of The Galaxy Vol. 2’: James Gunn Talks Star-Lord’s Father

Thor Love and Thunder Chris Pratt Guardians of the Galaxy Star-Lord

Following up perhaps the biggest Marvel Studios surprise so far, fans are eagerly awaiting the release of Guardians Of The Galaxy Vol. 2 later this year. Along with all the fun space-action that was set-up in the first film, the sequel will include a deeper look at the relationship between Star-Lord (Chris Pratt) and his father, who remained a fairly elusive character that we didn’t learn much about at all throughout the first film.

Looking to expand on what we can expect to see of the relationship between the two in the sequel, James Gunn recently spoke to USA today about just that:

“It runs the gamut of emotions for him, wanting to understand why his father wasn’t around to quickly idolizing him and ultimately learning the reality of the relationship and comparing the man who sired him to the man who raised him.

To let somebody love you is a very difficult thing, especially when you’re damaged goods, and all of the Guardians are damaged goods.”

Earlier last year, when talking to Empire, Chris Pratt also touched on the family and relationship dynamics which are going to be explored in Guardians Of The Galaxy Vol. 2:

“You’re going to see these characters having to endure the realities of being in a family. You’re talking about a guy who’s been longing to know who his father is for a long time. He’ll discover if that person lives up to the expectations he has in his head.”

“Set to the backdrop of ‘Awesome Mixtape #2,’ Marvel’s Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 continues the team’s adventures as they traverse the outer reaches of the cosmos. The Guardians must fight to keep their newfound family together as they unravel the mysteries of Peter Quill’s true parentage. Old foes become new allies and fan-favorite characters from the classic comics will come to our heroes’ aid as the Marvel cinematic universe continues to expand.”

Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 hits US theaters May 5th, 2017.
