‘Guardians Of The Galaxy Vol. 3’: James Gunn On Production Start Date

Audiences will reunite with the Guardians of the Galaxy when Avengers: Infinity War arrives in theaters next summer, but director James Gunn is already hard at work writing the third installment of the team’s standalone film series. In an interview with Collider, Gunn discussed the timeframe for the film’s production start date and explained his process when developing the script.

While Marvel has not announced a release date for Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3, Gunn offered an approximate timeframe for when filming will begin:

“It would be a little more than a year that we start filming.”

Promising that third film will provide answers, Gunn explained why he puts great care into crafting the treatment:

“I do an incredibly in-depth treatment for every movie. I think of writing a screenplay as creating the body of a human being and you’ve got to start with the skeleton, start with the bones, and you create the bones. You take a lot of time because that’s the actual base of the movie and if you screw that part up, later on down the line, you’re going to have a lot of mistakes. So by creating a really strong foundation for the story, that’s the most important thing. So I write a good treatment that’s probably about 70 pages long. It includes photographs and things like that. So that has been the way I’ve dealt with every movie and this one as well.”

When asked about the possibility of a film featuring Sylvester Stallone and the Ravagers introduced at the end of Vol. 2, Gunn replied:

“There’s always discussion with Ravagers — it would be The Ravagers. It’s always a possibility. I would be excited.”

Of course, as previously mentioned, fans will first have to see how the team fares after their showdown with Thanos in Avengers: Infinity War.

Directed by Joe and Anthony Russo, Avengers: Infinity War stars Robert Downey Jr., Chris Evans, Chris Hemsworth, Mark Ruffalo, Scarlett Johansson, Jeremy Renner, Elizabeth Olsen, Paul Bettany, Chris Pratt, Zoe Saldana, Dave Bautista, Bradley Cooper, Vin Diesel, Pom Klementieff, Karen Gillan, Sean Gunn, Benedict Cumberbatch, Tom Holland, Sebastian Stan, Chadwick Boseman, Samuel L.
