According to The Hollywood Reporter, Marvel Studios is planning to begin filming James Gunn’s Guardians of the Galaxy Vol .3 in 2020.

After Disney fired James Gunn from Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 over offensive social media posts the filmmaker wrote several years ago, Gunn was tapped to write and direct DC’s The Suicide Squad. While Disney ultimately reinstated James Gunn as the director of Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3, his return was predicated on the condition that he fulfill his commitment to helming The Suicide Squad beforehand. While earlier reports suggested this would delay production on Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 until 2021, The Hollywood Reporter writes Marvel Studios is planning for the third chapter of the Guardians films series begin shooting in 2020, with the current five stars of the franchise expected to return.

James Gunn had completed his script for Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 and production was scheduled to begin early this year. However, the project was put on hold following the decision to remove Gunn as the director of the final chapter in the trilogy, though Disney and Marvel Studios reportedly intended to use his script. Details on the third and final chapter of James Gunn’s Guardians of the Galaxy trilogy are currently unknown, though the film will likely explore the ramifications of the universe-changing events in Avengers: Endgame.

Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 is expected to star Chris Pratt, Zoe Saldana, Dave Bautista, Vin Diesel, Bradley Cooper, Karen Gillan, Pom Klementieff, Elizabeth Debicki, and Sean Gunn.

Stay tuned to Heroic Hollywood for the latest updates on the Marvel Studios film as it develops!
