With Marvel’s Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 set to hit theaters next week, the reviews are starting to pour in. Thus far, the reviews have been primarily positive, however, the overall consensus seems to be that the sequel is not quite as amazing as the first Guardians film. Vol. 2 has hit one significant milestone, though, in terms of achieving a positive critical response…
On Rotten Tomatoes, the film is now Certified Fresh, with an 88% rating. Out of 88 total reviews counted (at the time of this writing), 77 are fresh, while 11 of them are rotten. That number will surely change as more reviews come in leading up to the film’s release and beyond, but hopefully, it will not change by much.
In comparison, the first GOTG film has a 91% score, but that’s out of 288 reviews, with 263 being fresh and 25 being rotten. The sequel’s numbers are down a bit from the first, but that should be expected. James Gunn and company are not going to be able to surprise the audience with these characters like they did the first time around.
Directed by James Gunn, Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 stars Chris Pratt, Zoe Saldana, Dave Bautista, Vin Diesel, Bradley Cooper, Michael Rooker, Karen Gillan, Pom Klementieff, Kurt Russell, Sean Gunn, Elizabeth Debicki, Glenn Close, Michael Rosenbaum and Sylvester Stallone. Here is the sequel’s official synopsis:
Set to the backdrop of ‘Awesome Mixtape #2,’ Marvel’s Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 continues the team’s adventures as they traverse the outer reaches of the cosmos. The Guardians must fight to keep their newfound family together as they unravel the mysteries of Peter Quill’s true parentage. Old foes become new allies and fan-favorite characters from the classic comics will come to our heroes’ aid as the Marvel cinematic universe continues to expand.
Marvel’s Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 hits theaters May 5, 2017.
