After purchasing Lucasfilm from George Lucas, Disney announced that not only would they produce a new trilogy of Star Wars films, but that a series of standalone projects set within the same galaxy would also be developed. While a few of those spin-off film’s have been announced, with Rogue One kicking-off the standalone movies late last year, for many fans the possibilities are as endless and everyone has an idea on who they would like to see helm a future Star Wars project. One director at the top of mind for many fans is filmmaker Guillermo Del Toro, who recently revealed to Collider that he has spoken with Lucasfilm president Kathleen Kennedy about potential ideas for a Star Wars project.

Del Toro confirmed he has had discussions with Kennedy and John Knoll but stated that he wants to focus on his own projects first.

“I will not comment on this, because then somebody will say, ‘Oh, Guillermo’s doing [Star Wars]!’ and I look like a kook. Neil Gaiman once said that, ‘I’d love to write Doctor Strange with Guillermo,’ and then all of a sudden on my IMDb I had ‘Doctor Strange’ [listed]. But saying all of that as a caveat, I would say there’s some characters that are great, and I have talked to Kathy Kennedy and John Knoll about ideas. But you know, I want to do my sh*t. I want to do my sh*t, I want to do it first, and I’m veering a lot towards animation. I love animation.”
