James Gunn Describes His Favorite ‘Guardians 2’ Scene To Film

James Gunn Guardians of the Galaxy Set Marvel Studios

James Gunn has just revealed what his favorite Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 scene to film was, and naturally, it has to do with the film’s biggest spoiler.

James Gunn told fans in a Facebook Q&A session that his favorite scene in the second Guardians movie happens at the last few minutes. There are other near-favorites for Gunn, but he sees this as being his personal favorite:

“There were a few of them, but I’d say that the final scene in space – not giving away too many spoilers – between Michael Rooker and Chris Pratt. Yondu and Peter Quill. Their final scene together was probably my favorite scene to film. I saw two actors acting at their full potential, reaching new heights on film that neither one of them felt like they had done before. So I love seeing that.”

To get into the spoilers that James Gunn wisely avoids for fans who haven’t seen the movie, the moment he’s referring to is specifically when Yondu – the selfish leader of a division of the Ravagers – chooses to give his life for Peter Quill (Star-Lord), letting the latter know that he saw him as the son he never had, and that he’s a better man. The scene is one of the more hard-hitting scenes in any Marvel movie, be it from Marvel Studios or any other company, so it’s not surprising to hear that Gunn liked filming it more than any other part of the sequel.

Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 is now available on home video. The James Gunn film stars Chris Pratt as Peter Quill (Star-Lord), Zoe Saldana as Gamora, Dave Bautista as Drax, Vin Diesel as Groot, Bradley Cooper as Rocket, Michael Rooker as Yondu, Karen Gillan as Nebula, Sean Gunn as Kraglin, Pom Klementieff as Mantis, Elizabeth Debicki as Ayesha, and Kurt Russell as Ego. Many of these same characters are set to appear in Avengers: Infinity War, its sequel, and Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3.
