Not much is known about the still untitled Avengers 4. Is it a direct sequel to Avengers: Infinity War? Most likely. Is that confirmed for a fact? No. But we are learning bits and pieces about the last Marvel Phase 3 film, ranging from photos of Chris Evans and Brie Larson arriving on set or Sebastian Stan confirming Bucky’s return. Now, Gwyneth Paltrow has seemingly dropped a new tidbit about James “Rhodey” Rhodes, otherwise known as War Machine. He’ll be back.
Paltrow, who appeared in all three Iron Man films, the first Avengers and then disappeared until the end of Spider-Man: Homecoming sat down with The Hollywood Reporter to talk about her new business ventures. During the conversation, she not only confirmed she will appear in the fourth Avengers film, but so will War Machine, played by House of Lies, Don Cheadle.
“I went to Atlanta to do Avengers 4, so I’m in and out for that, and it’s weird to go back and forth. We’re growing fast, and balls are dropping all the time. But honestly, I was on set and thought, ‘You sit here for two hours sipping tea, Robert Downey Jr. and Don Cheadle are making me laugh hysterically — why the hell did I give this up?’”
Cheadle’s return isn’t really that big of a shocker since it sounds like most of the Avengers are returning, but it does sound like a confirmation to us. We last saw “Rhodey” trying to gain his legs back after a devastating crash to earth in Captain America: Civil War. We don’t know if he will suit up, but he most likely will when Cap finally holds Moljner and says, “Avengers Assemble!” Okay, that was wishful thinking there.
Avengers 4 is currently filming in Atlanta and is scheduled to be released on May 3, 2019. As we learn more at Heroic Hollywood, you can be sure we will share it with you.
