Celebrations for Star Wars Day AKA May the Fourth (be with you) have come in full swing, and that is the case for director Christopher Miller, whom alongside his directorial partner Phil Lord will be helming a standalone Star Wars Story focusing on the galaxy’s most iconic smuggler, Han Solo.
Miller tweeted an image of the smuggler’s iconic DL-44 blaster pistol, signaling that this weapon is quintessential to Han Solo much like how the lightsaber is ingrained with Luke Skywalker.

The directorial duo known for Cloudy With a Chance of Meatballs, 21 Jump Street, The LEGO Movie, and 22 Jump Street are currently in preproduction on this next Star Wars Story following Gareth Edwards’ Rogue One as well as Rian Johnson’s Episode VIII. The film depicts a younger blaster-wielding smuggler along with his Wookiee companion, Chewbacca before they first meet Luke, Ben Kenobi, C-3PO, and R2-D2 in the Cantina in Episode IV – A New Hope.
The film is set for release on May 25, 2018 and as for the inevitable casting to fill in those boots, Alden Ehrenreich (Hail Caesar), Jack Reynor (Sing Street), and Taron Egerton (Kingsman: The Secret Service) were reportedly the final contenders, with Ehrenreich emerging as the current frontrunner. Expect an announcement for the new pilot of the Millennium Falcon within the near future.
