Fans are thinking that Harley Quinn murdered Jared Leto’s Joker in the brand new Birds of Prey trailer.
The internet was set aflame today when fans woke up to a brand new trailer for Birds of Prey that gave us a better look at Harley Quinn. One of the key moments in the Birds of Prey trailer is when Harley Quinn narrates how she and the Joker (Jared Leto’s rendition of the character, who was last seen in The Suicide Squad) are no longer dating anymore. Harley Quinn says this in the trailer when she’s driving a vehicle, which she then dives out of. The vehicle then hits an Ace Chemicals factory and then… blows up. Fans online are of the mindset that beside Harley Quinn was Jared Leto’s Joker, who was turned into sheer dust after that explosion.

It has been wide-spread knowledge that Jared Leto’s Joker wouldn’t be appearing aside Harley Quinn in Birds of Prey, so it’s interesting to think that fans believe the character is dead. Jared Leto’s Joker also won’t be appearing in James Gunn’s Suicide Squad, which means he’s officially been given the boot by DC. Seeing as Joaquin Phoenix’s Joker is far more popular than Jared Leto, and the myriad of controversy surrounding his portrayal, it’s safe to say that Leto won’t be back in the DCEU anytime soon. The trailer for Birds of Prey doesn’t sugarcoat how Harley Quinn won’t be relying on Jared Leto’s Joker, which is a refreshing take for the character.

“You ever hear the one about the cop, the songbird, the psycho and the mafia princess? Birds of Prey (And the Fantabulous Emancipation of One Harley Quinn) is a twisted tale told by Harley herself, as only Harley can tell it. When Gotham’s most nefariously narcissistic villain, Roman Sionis, and his zealous right-hand, Zsasz, put a target on a young girl named Cass, the city is turned upside down looking for her. Harley, Huntress, Black Canary and Renee Montoya’s paths collide, and the unlikely foursome have no choice but to team up to take Roman down.”
Directed by Cathy Yan from a script penned by Bumblebee writer Christina Hodson, Birds of Prey stars Mary Elizabeth Winstead as Huntress, Jurnee Smollett-Bell as Black Canary, Ella Jay Basco as Cassandra Cain, Rosie Perez as Renee Montoya, Chris Messina as Victor Zsasz, Ewan McGregor as Black Mask, and Margot Robbie as Harley Quinn. Ali Wong, Robert Catrini, and Michael Masini have also been cast in undisclosed roles.
Birds of Prey will be released in theaters on February 7, 2020.
