Indy's gonna be a bit late.

Harrison Ford’s fifth outing as Indiana Jones has been pushed back a year.

Earlier today, Disney delayed several of its upcoming films, including numerous Marvel Studios projects. In the list of delays was James Mangold’s untitled Indiana Jones film, which sees Harrison Ford returning to the role after over a decade. The fifth film in the storied franchise was set to hit cinemas later next year on July 29. Now, Disney has pushed Indy’s latest adventure back by nearly a year.

The fifth film in the historical action-adventure franchise will now hit cinemas on June 30, 2023, pushing it back nearly a full year. The Harrison Ford-led adventure was originally set to open up against Dwayne Johnson’s Black Adam, so it seems like a solid decision to move it away from the actor’s DC debut. Another key reason for the delay is likely because of the numerous setbacks the production has gone through, including Ford getting injured.

Plot details surrounding Indy’s fifth adventure are unknown, though the film is set to take place in the 60s, at the height of the space race. The film is also expected to feature flashbacks from Jones’ early days of fighting off the Nazis.

Here is the synopsis for the previous film in the franchise, Kingdom of the Crystal Skull:

STEVEN SPIELBERG and GEORGE LUCAS bring you the greatest adventurer of all time in “a nonstop thrill ride” (Richard Corliss, TIME) that’s packed with “ensational, awe-inspiring spectacles” (Roger Ebert, CHICAGO SUN-TIMES). Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull finds Indy (Harrison Ford) trying to outrace a brilliant and beautiful agent (Cate Blanchett) for the mystical, all-powerful crystal skull of Akator. Teaming up with a rebellious young biker (Shia LaBeouf) and his spirited original love Marion (Karen Allen), Indy takes you on an action-packed adventure in the exciting tradition of the classic Indiana Jones movies!

Indiana Jones 5 is currently scheduled to be released in theaters on July 29, 2022. Stay tuned to Heroic Hollywood for all the latest news on Lucasfilm’s upcoming projects, and subscribe to our YouTube channel for more video content in the future!
