HBO Exec Debunks Reports That Damon Lindelof’s ‘Watchmen’ Is Done

Yahya Abdul-Mateen II HBO Watchmen The Matrix 4 Damon Lindelof

HBO programming chief Casey Bloys seems to have debunked reports that Damon Lindelof Watchmen won’t return for the second season.

Earlier this week, reports began circulating suggesting the chances of seeing the second season of Watchmen were small. The reports were based on a quote Watchmen series creator Damon Lindelof gave to USA Today in which the showrunner noted that he believes he had already told the story he wanted to tell with the HBO show.

However, a new report by Decider noted that Damon Lindelof’s comments are consistent with earlier statements made by the Watchmen showrunner, who has previously stated that he would consider doing a second season of the HBO series if the right idea came to him. Now, HBO programming chief Casey Bloys has indicated that there is still a possibility of seeing the second season of Damon Lindelof’s Watchmen by sharing the aforementioned report on his official Twitter account.

Here is the official synopsis for HBO and Damon Lindelof’s Watchmen:

Set in an alternate history where “superheroes” are treated as outlaws, WATCHMEN embraces the nostalgia of the original groundbreaking graphic novel while attempting to break new ground of its own.

Watchmen stars Regina King, Jeremy Irons, Don Johnson, Jean Smart, Tim Blake Nelson, Louis Gossett Jr., Yahya Abdul-Mateen II, Hong Chau, Andrew Howard, Tom Mison, Frances Fisher, Jacob Ming-Trent, Sara Vickers, Dylan Schombing, and James Wolk. The series is produced for HBO by White Rabbit in association with Warner Bros. Television, based on Alan Moore’s graphic novel co-created and illustrated by Dave Gibbons and published by DC.

Watchmen aired on Sundays at 9:00 p.m. on HBO.
