HBO Head Discusses If A ‘Game Of Thrones’ Spin-Off Is Possible

Game of Thrones

Believe it or not, Game of Thrones is almost over. t’s hard to imagine the insanely popular fantasy series ever ending. But even good things must come to an end, and after two more short seasons, the world of Westeros will close its doors. Unless of course, it doesn’t.

The main story for Game of Thrones may be nearly over, but there’s still a lot more stories in Westeros and beyond that have yet to be explored. Like any great fantasy epic, Game of Thrones lends itself to a ton of spin-off possibilities.

Fans have hoped that HBO would find some way to keep the world of Westeros alive long after the show’s conclusion. Recently, Casey Bloys, the programming president of HBO, has addressed their plans for the future of Game of Thrones. Basically, it’s possible for a Game of Thrones spin-off to exist, but it all depends on a few key things.

“There are so many properties and areas to go to. For us, it’s about finding the right take with the right writer.”

Bloys also addressed whether we’d see GoT writers David Benioff and D.B. Weiss return for a potential spin-off series. Both writers expressed that they were content with Game of Thrones coming to a glorious ending during the Emmy’s this year, but Bloys is pretty hopeful that they’ll be a part of a possible spin-off in some form.

“You’re getting them [Benioff and Weiss] right when they’re about to embark on production. It’s a big, big commitment for them, not just their creative force, but also their family life. They’re gone for months at a time. So it’s a big, big thing. But should we find a property that makes sense as a spinoff or a prequel — whatever you want to say — I would not expect them to do it, because they’re going to need to decompress for a good amount of time, but it would certainly be nice to have their involvement in some way. At what level? I have no idea.”

Hopefully HBO can figure out some way to keep the Game of Thrones franchise alive, there’s so many possibilities. If not, Westworld is already shaping up to be HBO’s next big thing. Do you want a Game of Thrones spin-off series? Sound off in the comments below!
