A new sizzle reel from HBO Max has revealed the first footage from John Cena’s Peacemaker series.
James Gunn’s The Suicide Squad featured the big screen debut of Christopher Smith, a delusional patriot who goes by the the moniker of “Peacemaker.” Now, Peacemaker is getting a spin-off series for the WarnerMedia streaming service HBO Max, with the project set to premiere in January 2022.
During last night’s Primetime Emmy Awards, HBO Max premiered a sizzle reel showing off its upcoming slate, giving fans a first look at Peacemaker. The footage comes in at the 30-second mark and features some of the returning characters from The Suicide Squad as well as a glimpse of Freddie Stroma as the classic DC Comics villain Vigilante. Check out the sizzle reel below.
Details about the plot of Peacemaker are being kept under lock and key. In addition to John Cena, Peacemaker also stars Steve Agee, Danielle Brooks, Robert Patrick, Jennifer Holland, Chris Conrad, Chukwudi Iwuji, Lochlyn Munro, Annie Chang and Christopher Heyerdahl. James Gunn wrote all eight episodes of the series and is directing several of them, including the pilot.
John Cena’s Peacemaker can currently be seen in The Suicide Squad. Here’s the official synopsis for the film:
Welcome to hell—a.k.a. Belle Reve, the prison with the highest mortality rate in the US of A. Where the worst Super-Villains are kept and where they will do anything to get out—even join the super-secret, super-shady Task Force X. Today’s do-or-die assignment? Assemble a collection of cons, including Bloodsport, Peacemaker, Captain Boomerang, Ratcatcher 2, Savant, King Shark, Blackguard, Javelin and everyone’s favorite psycho, Harley Quinn. Then arm them heavily and drop them (literally) on the remote, enemy-infused island of Corto Maltese. Trekking through a jungle teeming with militant adversaries and guerrilla forces at every turn, the Squad is on a search-and-destroy mission, with only Colonel Rick Flag on the ground to make them behave…and Amanda Waller’s government techies in their ears, tracking their every movement. And as always, one wrong move and they’re dead (whether at the hands of their opponents, a teammate, or Waller herself). If anyone’s laying down bets, the smart money is against them—all of them.
Written and directed by James Gunn, The Suicide Squad stars Margot Robbie, Idris Elba, John Cena, Joel Kinnaman, Sylvester Stallone, Viola Davis, Jai Courtney, Peter Capaldi, David Dastmalchian, Daniela Melchior, Michael Rooker, Pete Davidson, Nathan Fillion, Sean Gunn, Flula Borg, Mayling Ng, Tinashe Kajese, Steve Agee, Jennifer Holland, Alice Braga, Juan Diego Botto, Joaquin Cosio, Storm Reid and Taika Waititi.
