‘Hellboy’ TV Spot Is Packed With New Footage Of David Harbour & Demons

David Harbour Hellboy

Hell ain’t a bad place to be in the latest Hellboy television spot, which features Stranger Things star David Harbour against an unholy army.

Lionsgate dropped the ad today through their official YouTube page. The commercial is a brief thirty seconds but manages to pack one devil of a wallop. The first third retells the origin of Hellboy, this time played by David Harbour, and we see a handful of frames featuring the titular hero as he is summoned from the underworld as an adorable demon baby. It is a scene familiar enough to even the most casual fans of Guillermo del Toro’s original film wherein Ron Pearlman famously wore the red makeup and glove.

The rest of the spot is where Neil Marshall’s upcoming take on the comics starts to differentiate itself as grittier and more macabre, particularly the shot of David Harbour climbing out of what appears to be some sort of well with a fiery crown floating above his head and a flaming sword in hand. Despite the grisly imagery, the different voiceovers are there to help remind us that, fortunately, this guy is on our side. Check out the full TV spot below.

Though the short video makes David Harbor out as a hero, fans don’t get much from his character in the way of his trademark sense of sarcastic humor, even in the direst of circumstances. The rest of the runtime is dedicated to showcasing the variety of grotesque monstrosities fans will see in Hellboy.
