There Wasn’t Any Need For Justice League’ Ruining Henry Cavill Mustache

In a recent post, Mission: Impossible-Fallout director, Christopher McQuarrie, finally addressed the so called need for Henry Cavill’s Justice League ruining mustache.

During a twitter exchange, it was asked if there was any need for Henry Cavill to have the now infamous mustache for the filming of Mission: Impossible-Fallout:

@chrismcquarrie You’ve probably been asked this a hundred times already but was there any specific reason for Cavill’s moustache?

According to McQuarrie there wasn’t any specific need for it for the film. The two just liked the look and decided to roll with it:

Nope. Henry had a full beard on his previous film (Nomis) and presented that look to me the day before we started shooting. We went with it on a whim.

This is news that will probably come as a blow to Justice League fans. By now it is well known that due to a studio dispute, Superman actor Henry Cavill was forced to retain a mustache during an extensive reshoot of last years Justice League. Because of this, the people in the Justice League effects department were forced to completely  reconstruct Henry Cavill’s face using CG with disastrous results. The story was first leaked and gained wider circulation when someone who worked in the effects department shared the story. And based on what the director is saying, it was a simple aesthetic choice that caused more problems then anyone could have imagined. It’s a shame how these things sometimes work out.

Mission: Impossible – Fallout is directed by Christopher McQuarrie and stars Tom Cruise, Rebecca Ferguson, Alec Baldwin, Angela Bassett, Vanessa Kirby, Sean Harris, Henry Cavill, Luther Stickell, Frederick Schmidt, Michelle Monaghan, Ving Rhames, Sian Brook, and Simon Pegg. Here’s the official synopsis:

Ethan Hunt and the IMF team join forces with CIA assassin August Walker to prevent a disaster of epic proportions. Arms dealer John Lark and a group of terrorists known as the Apostles plan to use three plutonium cores for a simultaneous nuclear attack on the Vatican, Jerusalem and Mecca, Saudi Arabia. When the weapons go missing, Ethan and his crew find themselves in a desperate race against time to prevent them from falling into the wrong hands.

Mission: Impossible – Fallout is out in theaters now.

Justice League is now available on Digital HD, 4K Ultra HD Blu-ray, Blu-ray 3D Combo Pack, and DVD.
