Despite undergoing a course correction after the not-so-stellar response to both Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice and Suicide Squad, the DC Extended Universe still boasts some exciting behind the scenes stories from all their films both already released, or in production. DC has had three stellar Blu-ray releases for their films that have an incredible array of bonus material for the hardcore fans who want to see how much effort is put into crafting the spectacle.
Today, Henry Cavill shared a new image set during the principal photography of Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice. This photo features Cavill, capeless (with the VFX artists showcasing their magic in post) and determined as he is shooting the film’s titular battle between the two icons. I have high hopes for DC’s cinematic prospects for 2017. Sure, we have The LEGO Batman Movie next month, which is certainly going to be a hilarious love letter for the Dark Knight, but we also have Wonder Woman and Justice League. The former, out of all the superhero films coming out this year has the most riding on it – not only for it to be the first critical hit for DC, but also as the first major female-led superhero film of the Heroic Age of Hollywood. And as for Justice League, directed by the same artist behind two of the most divisive comic book films of all-time, audiences are left wondering how different the film will be in tone compared to its two predecessors.
Either way, let’s hope that the “hope and optimism” that Geoff Johns is promising for the DCEU will live up to, if not exceed our expectations.
Wonder Woman hits theaters on June 2nd and Justice League hits theaters on November 17th.
