Henry Cavill has addressed the rumors regarding his potential return to the role of Superman for future DC projects.
Henry Cavill first portrayed Superman in the 2013 film, Man of Steel and reprised the role for Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice and Justice League. Sadly all of these films were met with mixed to negative reviews and did not make nearly as much money as Warner Bros was projecting them to. Following the critical and financial disappointment of Justice League, Henry Cavill appeared to be stepping away from the role. Back in May, however, it was discovered that Henry Cavill was in talks to reprise his role as Superman.
Immediately following this, rumors and speculation over what Henry Cavill might do as Superman began to spread across the internet like wildfire. While speaking to Variety, the actor talked about the speculation and how insane that they can get but seemed genuinely happy that people were excited to see that he could return to the role:
They get wilder and wilder by the day. The amount of speculation, the stuff I read on the Internet, is extraordinary and sometimes frustrating. It’s when you see people stating stuff as fact. Like, “No, that’s not the case. That hasn’t happened, and that conversation isn’t happening.” But the important thing is that people are excited about it, and I think it’s important to be excited about a character like Superman. Superman is a fantastic character. If people are chatting about it, and even if they’re making stuff up, it’s okay, because that means they want to see the character again. And in an ideal world, I would absolutely love to play the character again.

Henry Cavill’s Superman was last seen in Justice League. Here is the plot synopsis for the film:
Fueled by his restored faith in humanity and inspired by Superman’s selfless act, Bruce Wayne enlists the help of his newfound ally, Diana Prince, to face an even greater enemy. Together, Batman and Wonder Woman work quickly to find and recruit a team of metahumans to stand against this newly awakened threat. But despite the formation of this unprecedented league of heroes—Batman, Wonder Woman, Aquaman, Cyborg and The Flash—it may already be too late to save the planet from an assault of catastrophic proportions.
Directed by Zack Snyder, Justice League stars Ben Affleck, Henry Cavill, Amy Adams, Gal Gadot, Ezra Miller, Jason Momoa, Ray Fisher, Jeremy Irons, Diane Lane, Connie Nielsen, J. K. Simmons, and Ciarán Hinds.
