Justice League star Henry Cavill addressed the rumors he’s no longer Superman during a recent interview.
Henry Cavill’s future as Superman has been in doubt since October 2017, with reports claiming that Warner Bros. and DC are shelving the characters to focus on introducing other DC Comics icons like Supergirl. Now, Henry Cavill has finally broken his silence on the rumors he’s no longer the Last Son of Krypton.
While doing the press rounds for his upcoming Netflix series The Witcher, Henry Cavill spoke with Men’s Health and addressed the rumors he’s done playing Superman. When asked if he’s still the DC Extended Universe’s Man of Steel, Henry Cavill said the following:
“The cape is in the closet. It’s still mine.”
During the interview, Henry Cavill also confirmed that he almost reprised his role as Superman for a small cameo in Zachary Levi’s first cinematic solo outing as Shazam, but couldn’t do it due to a scheduling conflict caused by Mission: Impossible – Fallout. The Justice League star then said that he hasn’t “given up the role” and that there’s still a lot to be done with the character.
“I’m not just going to sit quietly in the dark as all this stuff is going on. I’ve not given up the role. There’s a lot I have to give for Superman yet. A lot of storytelling to do. A lot of real, true depths to the honesty of the character I want to get into. I want to reflect the comic books. That’s important to me. There’s a lot of justice to be done for Superman. The status is: You’ll see.”
