The Witcher showrunner has revealed how Henry Cavill’s Geralt begins his journey in the upcoming Netflix show.
With The Witcher set to hit Netflix in just over a month, showrunner Lauren S. Hissrich has been discussing the components of what went into making the Henry Cavill show. In a recent interview with SciFiNow, she discussed what sets off Henry Cavill’s Geralt on his journey in The Witcher. The interview was transcribed by The Witcher fan site Redanian Intillegence.
Here’s what she had to say:
“So I went through and with the writers picked out not just my favourite stories, although I picked some of my favourites, but the stories that I thought best illustrated what The Witcher is about. And that’s kind of where we start off. Geralt is almost 100 years old when the series starts and we find him in the middle of a journey. Then there’s the death of a character and that’s what launches him off onto his journey and that starts to complicate things for a man who thought he’d had it all figured out. It’s a pretty fun place to start, it’s really a character on the edge of a new journey.”
For obvious reasons, The Witcher showrunner doesn’t go into explicit details as to who the character in question is that dies. What’s interesting though is that we’ll be seeing Geralt at 100 years, which means that Henry Cavill’s character is quite experienced in hunting those pesky monsters.
Just recently, it was announced that the Henry Cavill show was renewed for a second season, which means that Netflix must be quite optimistic for The Witcher. For fans of the fantasy genre, The Witcher is quite the welcoming in a post-Game of Thrones world. And seeing as Henry Cavill’s role as Superman seems to be in limbo, The Witcher appears to be the perfect franchise to keep him busy for the next few years.
