Production is officially under way on Season 3 of The Witcher and Netflix have shared a first image of Henry Cavill, Freya Allan and Anya Chalotra on set.
In a post on the official Netflix Instagram account, Henry Cavill, who plays Geralt of Rivia in the fantasy series, is shown alongside co-stars Frey Allan and Anya Chalotra (Ciri and Yennefer respectively). The trio are shown sitting between takes on a great snowy plain in front of a forest. While it gives away little of what to expect from the new series of The Witcher, the image appears to confirm the next season will pick up where Season 2 left off, with these three characters still travelling together.
The Witcher‘s Season 2 finale, ‘Family,’ saw Geralt asking Yennefer to help train Ciri in the use of her magical abilities, as she had been the only one to help Ciri gain some control over her power. The episode’s closing moments also saw Geralt admitting he believed Ciri was the key to his and Yennefer’s entwined destinies. The first photo of Henry Cavill and his co-stars from Season 3 appears to tease the three characters continuing to dsicover the destiny that binds them. Check out the image below:
As well as the set photo, the official synopsis for Season 3 has also been released, teasing a journey to the fortress of Aretuza:
As monarchs, mages, and beasts of the Continent compete to capture her, Geralt takes Ciri of Cintra into hiding, determined to protect his newly-reunited family against those who threaten to destroy it. Entrusted with Ciri’s magical training, Yennefer leads them to the protected fortress of Aretuza, where she hopes to discover more about the girl’s untapped powers; instead, they discover they’ve landed in a battlefield of political corruption, dark magic, and treachery. They must fight back, put everything on the line — or risk losing each other forever.
