Henry Cavill Attached To ‘Warhammer 40K’ Franchise For Amazon

Henry Cavill is creating a Warhammer 40K universe at Amazon.

Amazon has announced that it has secured the global rights to Warhammer 40K from Games Workshop. Former Superman actor Henry Cavill is attached to star in and executive producer future Warhammer 40K projects at Amazon, with the first one expected to be a live-action television series.

“Warhammer 40,000 has captured the imagination of fans of all ages, from all walks of life, and all over the world,” said Jennifer Salke, head of Amazon and MGM Studios. “We are excited to work with Henry, Vertigo Entertainment, and Games Workshop across our Amazon entertainment businesses on this brilliant, immersive franchise for our global customers to experience for years to come.”

Henry Cavill added: “I have loved Warhammer since I was a boy, making this moment truly special for me. The opportunity to shepherd this cinematic universe from its inception is quite the honour and the responsibility. I couldn’t be more grateful for all the hard work put in by Vertigo, Amazon Studios and Games Workshop to make this happen. One step closer to making a nigh on lifelong dream come true.”

The Warhammer 40K deal happened after Henry Cavill teamed up with Vertigo Entertainment’s Roy Lee and Natalie Viscuso to secure the rights to the popular franchise. Vertigo is executive producing the series alongside Andy Smillie and Max Bottrill of Games Workshop.

Henry Cavill’s future after Superman

Earlier this week, DC Studios co-head James Gunn announced that Henry Cavill is no longer attached to the role of Superman as his next cinematic solo outing centers on a younger version of the character. Cavill made his debut as Superman in 2013’s Man of Steel was last seen in the role in the post-credits scene of Black Adam.

Henry Cavill fans can expect to see the actor in Argylle, The Ministry of Ungentlemanly Warfare and the Highlander reboot. On the television side, Cavill will next be seen in the third season of Netflix’s The Witcher, which marks the end of his time as Geralt of Rivia.
