HBO has officially announced the commencement of the production for the second season of the Game of Thrones prequel series House of the Dragon. The premium TV network has shared that filming has begun at Leavesden Studios, located in the United Kingdom.
To celebrate the start of production on House of the Dragon seeason two, HBO released a set photo of the iconic iron throne, which featured crew members in the background. The facility where filming is taking place has been used for the production of various high-profile movies and TV shows, including the Harry Potter franchise.
“House of the Dragon has returned,” Ryan Condal, co-creator, showrunner, and executive producer on the series said in a statement. “We are thrilled to be shooting again with members of our original family as well as new talents on both sides of the camera. All your favorite characters will soon be conspiring at the council tables, marching with their armies, and riding their dragons into battle. We can’t wait to share what we have in store.”
House of the Dragon was named the Best Drama series of 2022 during the recent 80th Golden Globe Awards, beating out the likes of Better Call Saul, The Crown, Ozark and Severance. Game of Thrones never managed to win the award during its eight-season run on HBO.

House of the Dragon is set around 200 years before the events of Game of Thrones and follows House Targaryen – the noble house of Emilia Clarke’s Daenerys Targaryen from Thrones – as a civil war known as the Dance of the Dragons breaks out between claimants to the Iron Throne.
Miguel Sapochnik and Ryan J. Condal served as co-showrunners on House of the Dragon season one. They also executive produced the season alongside George R. R. Martin. The series features a star-studded cast that includes Matt Smith, Olivia Cooke, Emma D’Arcy, Paddy Considine, Rhys Ifans, Steve Toussaint, Eve Best and Sonoya Mizuno.
