The Academy Award-winner is in talks to return to Middle Earth!

The Lord of the Rings Amazon coronavirus Howard Shore

Howard Shore is in talks to return to Middle Earth to score The Lord of the Rings Amazon series.

Amazon’s upcoming The Lord of the Rings series is the most expensive television series ever made, and a key element of the original trilogy of films may return. Although Peter Jackson and much of the film’s cast are not involved, Deadline reports that Academy Award-winning composer Howard Shore is in talks to return to the franchise to score the series.

For his work on Peter Jackson’s The Lord of the Rings trilogy, Howard Shore won three Oscars, including two for Best Original Score for The Fellowship of the Ring and The Return of the King, and one for Best Original Song for “Into the West.” The possible addition of Howard Shore hints that the series is still looking to link back to the original films despite being mostly separated from them.

The untitled live-action series is being developed by J.D. Payne and Patrick McKay, who will lead a writer’s room that includes Game of Thrones alum Bryan Cogman. Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom director J. A. Bayona is set to direct multiple episodes of Amazon’s Lord of the Rings series.

Based on previous reports, the upcoming series will take place thousands of years before the events of The Fellowship of the Ring during the Second Age of Middle-Earth. Amazon Studios is producing the series in cooperation with the Tolkien Estate and Trust, HarperCollins, and New Line Cinema. The ensemble for the show consists of Robert Aramayo, Owain Arthur, Nazanin Boniadi, Tom Budge, Morfydd Clark, Ismael Cruz Córdova, Ema Horvath, Markella Kavenagh, Joseph Mawle, Tyroe Muhafidin, Sophia Nomvete, Megan Richards, Dylan Smith, Charlie Vickers, and Daniel Weyman.

Amazon’s The Lord of the Rings series will premiere on September 2, 2022. Stay tuned for all the latest news surrounding the series and be sure to subscribe to Heroic Hollywood’s YouTube channel for more original video content.
