As one might imagine, itโs not easy having six inch claws extending from your knuckles when youโre acting. In an interview with EW, Hugh Jackman revealed that he hurt himself quite a few times with his prop claws during his 17 year career playing the Wolverine. But it doesnโt stop there; he stabbed a stunt actress at one point as well!
โI canโt tell you how many people I stabbed, how I stabbed myself,โ Jackmanย said.ย โThey were killing machines.โ
Jackman recounted the particular instance of accidentally stabbing the stunt double for Mystique during the first X-Men film, which ended in a pretty unexpected but humorous way.
โI stabbed the [stunt] double for Mystique right in the arm,โ he recalled of a previous X-Men film. โOf course I freaked out a little bit. Itโs not every day you stab someone.โ
โShe said, โIโve been stabbed by Wolverine!โ That was one of the first days of shooting. Thatโs when you realize this is not a normal character, when people are really happy to be stabbed by your character.โ
Although stabbing another actress is probably more thanย a little distressing, coming too close to parts of your own body is no joke either. Turns out, Jackmanโs thighs might look more like Deadpoolโs than we think.
โIย used to have to practice so I wouldnโt hit people [with the claws]. And one thing I neglected to practice was the follow-through. โฆ Iโve got a number of scars on my thighs, and itโs really not cool. Got pretty close to some sensitive areas, but everythingโs fine.โ
Hugh Jackman can be seen as Wolverine for the final time in Logan. Itโs currently one of the highest rated superhero movies of all time and is quite the farewell for such an important character.
