First ‘Hunger Games’ Prequel Teaser Trailer Released Online

Return to the Games in 2023...

Hunger Games Ballad of Songbirds and Snakes teaser trailer

The first teaser trailer for The Hunger Games: The Ballad of Songbirds and Snakes, which was previously screened at CinemaCon in April, has now been officially released online.

The teaser does not actually include any footage from the film, though there may be a good reason for that – it seems unlikely the Hunger Games prequel has started shooting. While it was originally scheduled to enter production in the first half of this year, casting announcements have only just started to emerge, possibly suggesting the film is just gearing up to start shooting now.

While there is no footage from the film, the teaser trailer promises “the world will discover who is a songbird and who is a snake,” before revealing the official title card for The Hunger Games: The Ballad of Songbirds and Snakes.

Return To The Games

The upcoming prequel is based on Suzanne Collins’ novel of the same title. The Hunger Games: The Ballad of Songbirds and Snakes revolves around an 18-year-old Coriolanus Snow, long before he becomes President of Panem, as he is assigned to mentor District 12 Hunger Games tribute Lucy Gray Baird. Tom Blyth is appearing as the young Snow in the film adaptation, while Rachel Zegler is playing Lucy Gray Baird.

The teaser shows a mockingjay perched on a branch above a snake. As the frost that covers them is blown away, their golden coloring is revealed. Check out the new teaser for The Hunger Games: The Ballad of Songbirds and Snakes below:

The film is due to release next year and will mark the first Hunger Games film released since 2015’s The Hunger Games: Mockingjay – Part 2.

Here is the premise for The Hunger Games: The Ballad of Songbirds and Snakes:

Years before he would become the tyrannical President of Panem, 18-year-old Coriolanus Snow is the last hope for his fading lineage, a once-proud family that has fallen from grace in a post-war Capitol. With the 10th annual Hunger Games fast approaching, the young Snow is alarmed when he is assigned to mentor Lucy Gray Baird, the girl tribute from impoverished District 12. But, after Lucy Gray commands all of Panem’s attention by defiantly singing during the reaping ceremony, Snow thinks he might be able to turn the odds in their favor. Uniting their instincts for showmanship and newfound political savvy, Snow and Lucy’s race against time to survive will ultimately reveal who is a songbird, and who is a snake.
