Emperor Palpatine actor Ian McDiarmid recently alluded to another appearance in a future Star Wars series.
Ian McDiarmid has been one of the few actors to appear in all three Star Wars trilogies, and it sounds like another appearance might be on the horizon on Disney Plus. The 77-year-old actor recently made an appearance at Imperial Commissary Collectors Convention (ICCC) and shared the following about a potential return to the franchise as Palpatine:
“There’s a certain show coming soon set right around the time I may have considered to be very active. Whether or not you will see my physical body, I cannot comment on. But you will certainly feel my presence.”
Since Obi-Wan Kenobi and Andor take place during the height of the Empire, Ian McDiarmid reprising the Emperor Palpatine role in either show makes the most sense. Both Star Wars shows will arrive on Disney Plus this year. This isn’t the first time McDiarmid has teased a return as Palpatine, either.
Ian McDiarmid last appeared as Emperor Palpatine in Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker. Here is the official synopsis for the film:
Lucasfilm and director J. J. Abrams join forces once again to take viewers on an epic journey to a galaxy far, far away with Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker, the riveting conclusion of the seminal Skywalker saga, where new legends will be born and the final battle for freedom is yet to come.
Directed by J. J. Abrams, the film stars Daisy Ridley, Adam Driver, John Boyega, Oscar Isaac, Lupita Nyong’o, Domhnall Gleeson, Kelly Marie Tran, Joonas Suotamo, Billie Lourd, Naomi Ackie, Richard E. Grant, Keri Russell, Mark Hamill, Anthony Daniels, Ian McDiarmid, and Billy Dee Williams. The late Carrie Fisher appears as General Leia Organa by using previously unreleased footage shot for The Force Awakens and The Last Jedi.
