Lots of people died when Thanos snapped half of humanity out of existence in Avengers: Infinity War. You may not like it, but it provided perfect balance. What more can you want? But we can probably assume at this point that most, if not all, of the damage done in Infinity War will be undone by the time we get to Avengers 4 next May. But in the meantime, we have confirmation of other characters who did survive the snap.
Keeping with the theme of characters originating in the Thor films, in addition to Dr. Selvig and Darcy, it’s been confirmed in the recent tie-in comic, “The Cosmic Quest Vol. 2: Aftermath,” that the two will meet up with Natalie Portman’s Jane Foster in order to create their own “Science Avengers.”
So yes, despite the carnage brought about in Infinity War, Jane, Selvig, and Darcy are all alive and well and now have their own sort-of superhero group. Well, Reed Richards isn’t here yet, but when he is, he might have a word or two with them about a group of science Avengers. So, even with the Thor films increasingly going more cosmic, it appears that his Earth buddies are alive and well.
Not that this means these three will be appearing in Avengers 4. It’s possible, sure, but we haven’t seen these characters since Thor: The Dark World and Natalie Portman in particular doesn’t seem to be in any rush or have a dying need to return to the Marvel Cinematic Universe anytime soon. Whether Portman ultimately returns as Jane or if the role ends up recast remains up in the air. After all, it wouldn’t be the first time that a supporting character magically transformed into another actor.
But hey, Kevin Feige spoke once about a more diverse MCU going forward, so could this leave the door open for a female God of Thunder? We saw how well that went over with some fans in the comics, so can you imagine how that would work in live-action? Ultimately, though, it is nice to get confirmation that other characters out there in the MCU managed to survive the events of Thanos’ finger snap in Infinity War. Whether this actually translates to the film side of things remains to be seen.
But what do you think about Jane surviving the events of Avengers: Infinity War? Would you want to see her return to the films in the future? Let us know in the comments below.
Avengers: Infinity War is available now on Digital HD, 4K, Blu-Ray, and DVD. Avengers: Untitled will hit theaters on May 3, 2019.
