‘Infinity War’ Directors Break Down Final Moment Between Thor & Thanos

Avengers 4 Thor Infinity War Thanos Snap

Joe and Anthony Russo recently discussed some details regarding one of the most iconic moments between Thor and Thanos in Avengers: Infinity War.

Avengers: Infinity War has no shortage of iconic moments. From the opening sequence to the seconds leading up to the closing credits, there are moments of hilarity, excitement, and sadness in the Marvel Cinematic Universe event film. Another thing that those opening and closing moments have in common is their importance to the characters of Thor (Chris Hemsworth) and Thanos (Josh Brolin).

At a recent Collider Screening Series event, in which fans were treated to a screening of Avengers: Infinity War followed by a Q&A with Joe and Anthony Russo, the directing duo broke down the film’s iconic final moments. During the Q&A, the directors discussed the power of Stormbreaker, Thor’s new devastating weapon, and the Infinity Gauntlet. This is what Joe Russo had to say about Stormbreaker’s might.

“It certainly has the ability to counteract the Infinity Gauntlet.”

Anthony Russo then followed up with a more detailed response regarding Thanos’ thought process when Thor attacks him with Stormbreaker.

“I think that key moment, though, is that Thanos was caught off guard. He literally just didn’t know the power of what was coming at him. I mean, maybe he could have used the Stones in a different way had he understood what that weapon was, but it came out of nowhere.”

That first scene in Avengers: Infinity War sets up a deep hatred for Thanos within Thor, after having killed Loki (Tom Hiddleston) and Heimdall (Idris Elba), as well as half of the Asgardian population that Thor and friends had just rescued from destruction in Thor: Ragnarok. Presumably, that added on top of Thor accidentally allowing Thanos to complete his plan is going to make both of their arcs quite interesting in Avengers 4.
