Iron Fist headliner Finn Jones has reacted to the cancellation of Luke Cage after Netflix made the announcement on Friday, just seven days after his own show was not picked up for a third season.
Jones shared an image on his Instagram account of Danny Rand’s Iron Fist meeting Luke Cage’s fist. Could Jones perhaps be teasing the future of Power Man and Iron Fist? Check it out below.
“Unfortunately, Marvel’s Luke Cage will not return for a third season. Everyone at Marvel Television and Netflix is grateful to the dedicated showrunner, writers, cast and crew who brought Harlem’s Hero to life for the past two seasons, and to all the fans who have supported the series,” Netflix said in a statement.
According to TheWrap, the decision to cancel the show came down to creative differences, and an inability to reach terms on a deal for a third season.
Danny Rand and Luke Cage first teamed up in The Defenders, the Netflix crossover limited series which also featured Daredevil and Jessica Jones, before teaming up again in the second season of Luke Cage.
Starring Mike Colter, Luke Cage was introduced in 2015 during the first season of Jessica Jones with his own series, from showrunner Cheo Hodari Coker, premiering a year later. With the cancellation, Netflix is severing its ties with Marvel as the company is preparing to produce content for parent company Disney’s yet to launch streaming services. Disney has already indicated that it will allow its licensing deals with Marvel to expire so that library content can be moved to Disney-owned services.
The news comes just three weeks after Marvel Television’s Jeph Loeb made comments to EW about the show’s future.
“Unlike the movie studio, which can announce a Captain Marvel movie will be out in 2019, the television studio will always be beholden to our networks,” said Loeb.
