Ismael Cruz Córdova, known for his captivating performance as Arondir in the Amazon Prime Video series The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power, has caught the attention of Marvel Studios. The rising actor recently revealed in an interview with Variety that Marvel casting directors have expressed interest in working with him.

During the interview, Ismael Cruz Córdova mentioned that he was considered for the role of Adam Warlock in James Gunn’s Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3. Although the role ultimately went to Will Poulter, Cordova expressed his admiration for his portrayal and harbored no resentment. He acknowledged the difficulty of the decision, as he has a deep appreciation for the storyline and characters of the Guardians of the Galaxy series.

“I really wanted that one, but Will Poulter looks amazing doing it so I’m not mad. But that was a hard one because I love that whole storyline.”

While he did not disclose the specific characters he has discussed with Marvel Studios, Ismael Cruz Córdova did express a particular interest in playing Hector Ayala, also known as White Tiger.

“I think that’s just another character that’s just fantastic. I love characters that are improbable heroes that are people that have got the worst deck dealt. That is my story. And I find that is many of our stories. And life is not just this little journey of redemption. How many of us were bullied? How many of us were poor? How many of us cast away? How many of our identities were something that you couldn’t be. A lot of us got cards that were a bad deck.”

James Gunn has emphasized that Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 is his swan song from the Marvel Cinematic Universe now, given that he has accepted the coveted job as the new co-CEO of DC Studios alongside film producer Peter Safran. One of his first duties in his new position is to write and direct Superman: Legacywhich is a reboot exploring a younger Clark Kent, moving on from the most recent iteration with Henry Cavill.
