It seems that spinoffs of the IT films are unlikely as one of the writers of the first film and IT: Chapter Two says that there is probably interest, but that they don’t want to push it.
During a recent interview with Bloody Disgusting, IT and IT: Chapter Two writer Gary Dauberman talked a bit about the possibility of additional spinoffs after IT: Chapter Two wraps up. He stated that while there is interest, they’re more interested in staying true to the source material than trying to milk the title off for spinoffs:
“I’m sure there’s interest. But I gotta say, we want to be respectful to the material of the book. I don’t think anybody’s over there, in fact I know there’s no one over there going ‘Hey, let’s definitely do this and we could tell this story of what happened at the beaver trapping camp,’ or whatever.”
From the look of things, the IT writer and the other people behind the film are more interested in telling a good story than turning it into another Conjuring Universe!
Producing a spinoff of IT would be tricky. So much of the book’s mythology is directly connected to Stephen King’s Dark Tower universe which, in turn, connects to several other books that other studios hold the film rights to. But, at the very least, we have at least one solid adaptation out of IT and hopefully, we’ll be getting another one in IT: Chapter Two.
What do you all make of this? Are you sad that the writer of IT seems to have little interest in doing a spinoff? Let us know what you think in the comments below.
Here’s the official synopsis for IT: Chapter Two:

Veteran X-Men producer Simon Kinberg makes his directorial debut with Dark Phoenix in addition to producing the film with Hutch Parker, Lauren Schuler Donner and Todd Hallowell. Dark Phoenix is expected to be Fox's final X-Men film featuring the core X-Men cast in the cinematic universe launched by director Bryan Singer in 2000 with the Disney-Fox merger now complete.
X-Men: Dark Phoenix stars James McAvoy, Michael Fassbender, Jennifer Lawrence, Nicholas Hoult, Tye Sheridan, Sophie Turner, Alexandra Shipp, Kodi Smit-McPhee, Evan Peters, and Jessica Chastain. Here's the film's synopsis:
“This is the story of one of the X-Men’s most beloved characters, Jean Grey, as she evolves into the iconic DARK PHOENIX. During a life-threatening rescue mission in space, Jean is hit by a cosmic force that transforms her into one of the most powerful mutants of all. Wrestling with this increasingly unstable power as well as her own personal demons, Jean spirals out of control, tearing the X-Men family apart and threatening to destroy the very fabric of our planet. The film is the most intense and emotional X-Men movie ever made. It is the culmination of 20 years of X-Men movies, as the family of mutants that we’ve come to know and love must face their most devastating enemy yet — one of their own.”
Dark Phoenix is set to hit theaters on June 7, 2019. Stay tuned to Heroic Hollywood for the latest news on the future of the X-Men.
