J.J. Abrams Applauds “Amazing” Script & “Extraordinary” Cast For ‘Han Solo’

Star Wars Han Solo Harrison Ford

After the success of Rogue One: A Star Wars Story, production for the untitled Han Solo Star Wars Story is well under way. This week, a picture was released from the set, featuring directors Phil Lord and Christopher Miller (21 Jump Street, The LEGO Movie) along with cast members Alden Ehrenreich (Han Solo), Woody Harrelson, Emilia Clarke, Donald Glover (Lando Calrissian), Phoebe Waller-Bridge and Joonas Suotamo (Chewbacca) sitting together in the cockpit of the Millennium Falcon.

The impressive line-up of performers (which also includes Westworld’s Thandie Newton) has provided much of the excitement for this new adventure with everyone’s favorite galactic scoundrel before he and Chewie met Luke Skywalker and Ben Kenobi at the Mos Eisley Cantina in Star Wars: Episode IV – A New Hope. The prospect of seeing Ehrenreich and Glover in these iconic roles is so intriguing – especially due to how Harrison Ford and Billy Dee Williams have cemented the characters within cinematic history.

J.J. Abrams, director of Star Wars: The Force Awakens is also quite excited to see this new adventure with Han Solo. In a recent interview with Fox News, Abrams sang the praises of the film’s ensemble cast as well as the script written by Lawrence and Jon Kasdan:

I can tell you it is an amazing script, and the cast is obviously extraordinary.

Last year, Abrams gave advice to the eventual actor portraying Han Solo (Ehrenreich) when taking on the vest, blaster and Falcon:

Watch Raiders of the Lost Ark. It’ll all be right there.

Ehrenreich needs to showcase the iconic charisma of Han Solo. The character’s swagger is just as inseparable to the character as he is to Chewie. But even there, Ehrenreich needs to make the role his own. Lord and Miller are smart enough filmmakers to understand that taking on this iconic character means that a mere impression would not suffice. Let’s hope that Ehrenreich fits into those boots nicely.

The movie will explore the duo’s (Han Solo and Chewbacca) adventures before the events of Star Wars: A New Hope, including their early encounters with that other card-playing rogue from a galaxy far, far away, Lando Calrissian.

Directed by Phil Lord and Christopher Miller and starring Alden Ehrenreich, Woody Harrelson, Emilia Clarke, Donald Glover, Thandie Newton, Phoebe Waller-Bridge and Joonas Suotamo, the untitled Han Solo Star Wars Story will come to a galaxy near you on May 25, 2018.
