Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker may include some LGBTQ+ representation according to director J.J. Abrams.

LGBTQ+ representation might finally be coming to the Star Wars universe in The Rise of Skywalker as J.J. Abrams recently discussed the possibility of the community being represented in the film. Fans have constantly debated the relationship between Finn and Poe in the new Star Wars trilogy, with many calling for better LGBTQ+ representation in the series. But that representation might be included in the upcoming film according to J.J. Abrams.

In an interview with Variety J.J. Abrams discussed the idea of Finn and Poe as an item, seemingly dismissing the theory as he explained that he doesn’t see their relationship as a romantic one. However he later explained that he wants LGBTQ+ audiences to feel part of the Star Wars universe, hinting that that there’ll be some representation in The Rise of Skywalker. Take a look at J.J. Abrams’ comments about an LGBTQ+ character below.

“That relationship to me is a far deeper one than a romantic one. It is a deep bond that these two have, not just because of the trial by fire in which they met, but also because of their willingness to be as intimate as they are, as afraid as they, as unsure as they are, and still be bold, and still be daring and brave. And in the case of the LGBTQ community, it was important to me that people who go to see this movie feel that they’re being represented in the film. I will say I’m giving away nothing about what happens in the movie. But I did just say what I just said.”

Are you happy that J.J. Abrams is bringing LGBTQ+ representation to the Star Wars universe? Or are you disappointed that Finn and Poe aren’t an item in The Rise of Skywalker? Tell us in the comments!
