J.K. Simmons Comments On Petition For Him To Reprise J. Jonah Jameson Role In The MCU

maxresdefaultEntertainment Tonight recently caught up with actor J.K. Simmons and once again the topic of potentially reprising his role as J. Jonah Jameson in Sony & Marvel Studios upcoming reboot of the Spider-Man series came up. Specifically, the Academy Award winning actor was asked about a recent petition launched by fans in an attempt to “secure” the role for the actor in the MCU.

That petition does not come from anybody that is actually in a position to do anything about it.

While Simmons brushed off the petition and it’s unlikely that he’ll actually be offered the role, Simmons added that he wouldn’t be against the opportunity if it came his way.

Being in those movies with Sam [Raimi] was one of the great joys of my career. It was a super fun character so I’ll never close the door on anything.

While it would be cool to see Simmons in the role once again, the fact that Peter Parker will be returning to high school for quite some time in the planned series makes it unlikely that we’ll see any major focus on the character or The Daily Bugle. We’ll see what happens. Would you like to see Simmons reprise the role? Should they go with someone else? Sound off in the comments section below.

I write stuff. Sometimes.

    Eh…I’m ok with a recast.

  • Simmons owns it. They would be just losing ground re-casting. He was so good, they never even bothered to retread that ground in the “Amazing” movies. Think about it, here is a great character actor, who does TV, stage and Film. He still voices JJJ on the cartoon so it isn’t like he has completely lost touch with the character, age isn’t an issue and they have gone on and on about not wanting to go back to step one with re-telling the origin story…. Think of how awesome it is to have an oscar winner on tap? He can do the nuance to take the character up a notch in the Spidey movies or turn him down a bit and have him be a “Connective” character on the level of Fury, Coulson and whoever Bilbo Baggins is playing in the new Cap movie. Have him as a talking head in an interview in any movie, have him appear in the Netflix series (Jessica Jones worked for the Bugle at some point too if I am not mistaken.) It’s too good of an opportunity to pass up! Marvel – Feige don’t mess this up, secure JK’s skills and don’t fix what wasn’t broken!

Someone has suggested Bryan Cranston. And I’m fine with it.

Not that I’m against it or anything, but Cranston gets suggested for everything nowadays. Thankfully its because of his acting skills and not just because he looks like a certain character. Unlike Billy Zane, who used to get fan cast as Lex Luthor just because he is bald. I personally think Cranston would make a great Jim Gordon.
