Jake Gyllenhaal has confirmed his role as Mysterio in the upcoming Spider-Man sequel, Spider-Man: Far From Home.
For quite some time now, many fans of the Marvel Cinematic Universe have speculated that the legendary actor would portray a key villain in an upcoming film. These rumors circled around Gyllenhaal portraying iconic Spider-Man comic book villain Mysterio. Now, Gyllenhaal has just created a comical Instagram post confirming that he will be playing the villain in the upcoming sequel to 2017’s smash hit Spider-Man: Homecoming titled Far From Home. The predecessor featured Michael Keaton as Adrian Toomes aka the Vulture, and has since been confirmed to reprise his role in the sequel.

The film will take place right after the events of the hotly anticipated feature Avengers 4, which has a rumored trailer release date of this Friday. Additionally, a similar report claims we will have a trailer for Far From Home come Saturday. Perhaps the first trailer will showcase Gyllenhaal in full costume for fans to see for the first time.
Plot details remain under wraps, though the film will follow Peter Parker as he joins his friends on a summer vacation in Europe and stars Gyllenhaal as Mysterio. Introduced in The Amazing Spider-Man #13, best incarnation of Mysterio is a special effects wizard named Quentin Beck and the character has been a frequent foe for the web-head since his debut.
Directed by Jon Watts with a script from Chris McKenna and Erik Sommers, Spider-Man: Far From Home stars Tom Holland, Michael Keaton, Jon Favreau, Zendaya, Marisa Tomei, Jake Gyllenhaal, Cobie Smulders, and Samuel L. Jackson.
Spider-Man: Far From Home will be released in theatres on July 5, 2019.
