Jake Lloyd’s family has revealed that the former Star Wars actor is making progress in his battle against mental illness.
Jake Lloyd joined the Star Wars family in 1999 with the premiere of The Phantom Menace, the film that saw him playing Anakin Skywalker for the first and last time on the big screen. Since the Star Wars film’s premiere, the young Jake Lloyd was bullied and harassed by many Star Wars fans who mocked him for his acting abilities. After his vilified performance in Star Wars: The Phantom Menace, Jake Lloyd abandoned acting and had several run-ins with the law, as well as a diagnosis of paranoid schizophrenia.
Now, Jake Lloyd’s mother has shared an update on the former Star Wars actor through a statement given to Geek News Now. You can read the statement from Jake Lloyd’s mother below.
“We would like to thank everyone for their kind words, their support, and goodwill. Jake has been diagnosed with paranoid schizophrenia, but unfortunately he also has a symptom called anosognosia which causes a lack of insight into his illness. This only adds to the struggle he faces, which has been very difficult after the tragic loss of his younger sister, Madison. He has moved closer to his family and we are all working hard to help him with this. He is still a kind and caring person and we hope to have him back to his fun and entertaining self as soon as possible. Jake will continue to make progress with the love and support you continue to show.”
The update from Jake Lloyd’s mother signals that the former Star Wars actor is on the right path to becoming the best version of himself. In recent years, Star Wars fans have tempered their rage and anger towards Jake Lloyd in the wake of his legal and personal struggles. However, many have found the treatment of Kelly Marie Tran in the wake of The Last Jedi to be similar to how Jake Lloyd was treated. Despite being one of the most passionate fandoms on Earth, Star Wars fans have been criticized numerous times for spewing ridiculous amounts of toxicity. Regardless of what one feels towards Star Wars: The Phantom Menace, it’s good to know that Jake Lloyd is on his way to success and prosperity.
