James Bond is heading to Amazon Prime in a way you might not expect.
Amazon and MGM have officially become one, allowing the tech conglomerate access to the historic studio’s wide array of properties, including the world’s favorite spy: James Bond. It was assumed that Bond would hit the streaming service sooner than later, spearheading his own television series – a first for the iconic franchise that has graced cinema halls for over half a century. When the deal was first announced late last year, James Bond producer Barbara Broccoli shot down the idea of the character, most recently played by Daniel Craig, ever receiving the small screen treatment.
Well, Variety reports that James Bond is, in fact, heading to Amazon Prime… kind of. Titled, 007’s Road to a Million, the series will be a reality competition series in the same vein as The Amazing Race, obviously with a James Bond, espionage-like flair. According to the outlet, two-person teams will compete and take on physical and mental challenges as they go through several iconic James Bond locations. The prize? £1 million in cash.
This upcoming series doesn’t necessarily renege the James Bond producer’s earlier comments as the character, nor the espionage world sorrounding him is being revisited. It remains to be seen when the series hits Amazon Prime but here’s an interesting tidbit: the reality show was in development at MGM way before Jeff Bezos and co. scooped up the historical studio.
Here is the synopsis for Daniel Craig’s final film as James Bond in No Time to Die:
Bond has left active service and is enjoying a tranquil life in Jamaica. His peace is short-lived when his old friend Felix Leiter from the CIA turns up asking for help. The mission to rescue a kidnapped scientist turns out to be far more treacherous than expected, leading Bond onto the trail of a mysterious villain armed with dangerous new technology.
Directed by Cary Joji Fukunaga, No Time to Die stars Daniel Craig, Ralph Fiennes, Naomie Harris, Ben Whishaw, Lea Seydoux, Rory Kinnear, Jeffrey Wright, Rami Malek, Ana de Armas, Lashana Lynch, Billy Magnussen, David Dencik, and Dali Benssalah.
