No Time to Die composer Hans Zimmer explained why Billie Eilish landed the job of writing the new James Bond song.
Throughout the history of the James Bond franchise, some of the most acclaimed music artists have been tasked with writing and singing the newest songs for a given entry in the film series. For No Time to Die, Grammy Award-winning artist Billie Eilish was enlisted to write and perform the newest song along with her bother, FINNEAS.
During an interview with Vulture, No Time to Die score composter Hans Zimmer explained why Billie Eilish was ultimately chosen to pen the new song. As Hans Zimmer recalled, several artists had submitted options for the potential James Bond song, but none of them managed to hold his interest for very long:
“I’m not going to say who, but I am going to get myself into loads of trouble, and I don’t care: I couldn’t get past the intro.”
However, when Hanz Zimmer heard the song offered by Billie Eilish and FINNEAS, he knew their submission had the right vibe for No Time to Die:
“That’s the vibe. That’s the everything. It’s a perfect movie song: In its quietness, somehow, you have a huge landscape in front of you.”
