Director James Gunn has confirmed that another HBO Max spinoff of The Suicide Squad is in the works.
Last summer, James Gunn’s The Suicide Squad opened in theaters and on HBO Max. The film was well-reviewed by critics but lacked the box office success of other DC theatrical projects. The film eventually went on to become the most popular DC film on HBO Max and this seems to be where the future of these characters lay.
Before The Suicide Squad was even released, James Gunn revealed that an HBO Max spinoff revolving around John Cena’s Peacemaker was in development. The show has since become one of the most popular in the world and the director has previously teased that other series may be in development. Now the director has seemingly confirmed it.
While speaking with Deadline, James Gunn confirmed that another HBO Max spinoff from The Suicide Squad was in the works. He did not, however, reveal any details about the upcoming project:
“We’re working on something else now, another TV show that’s connected to that universe. I can’t quite say.”
Here is the synopsis for James Gunn’s Peacemaker:
PEACEMAKER explores the continuing story of the character that John Cena reprises in the aftermath of executive producer James Gunn’s 2021 film The Suicide Squad – a compellingly vainglorious man who believes in peace at any cost, no matter how many people he has to kill to get it!
Peacemaker was created by James Gunn, who wrote all the episodes and directed five of them. The first season of the HBO Max series will consist of eight episodes, with Brad Anderson, Jody Hill, and Rosemary Rodriguez also directing episodes. Clint Mansell and Kevin Kiner also composed the DC show’s score.
The HBO Max series stars John Cena, Danielle Brooks, Freddie Stroma, Chukwudi Iwuji, Jennifer Holland, Steve Agee, and Robert Patrick.
Peacemaker is now streaming on HBO Max, with new episodes dropping every Thursday. Stay tuned for all the latest news surrounding The Suicide Squad spinoffs and be sure to subscribe to Heroic Hollywood’s YouTube channel for more original video content.
