This summer fans will be reunited with their favorite team of unlikely heroes when Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 hits theaters. The latest Marvel Studios film will also introduce audiences to a number of brand new characters including Mantis and Ego the Living Planet. However, one character will not be appearing the film is The Collector, who was played be Benicio Del Toro in the first film. During a Facebook Live stream, director James Gunn explained why The Collector will not be appearing in the highly anticipated sequel.
Gunn explained that the film simply did not call for an appearance by The Collector.
“I just talked to Benicio a couple weeks ago. He’s a great actor, a great guy. The Collector wasn’t right for the story of Guardians Of The Galaxy Vol. 2 because, although it’s an incredibly enormous film, it’s a much smaller film in certain ways with few characters. So, he just didn’t fit in.”
Fans of The Collector may be disappointed that the character will not included in the film, but Del Toro will reprise the role in Avengers: Infinity War.
Set to the backdrop of ‘Awesome Mixtape #2,’ Marvel’s Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 continues the team’s adventures as they traverse the outer reaches of the cosmos. The Guardians must fight to keep their newfound family together as they unravel the mysteries of Peter Quill’s true parentage. Old foes become new allies and fan-favorite characters from the classic comics will come to our heroes’ aid as the Marvel cinematic universe continues to expand.
Directed by James Gunn, the film stars Chris Pratt, Zoe Saldana, Dave Bautista Vin Diesel, Bradley Cooper, Michael Rooker, Karen Gillan, Glenn Close, Pom Klementieff, Elizabeth Debicki and Kurt Russell.
Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 will be released in theaters on May 5, 2017.
5 Ways Marvel Studios Could Follow & Top ‘Infinity War’
Marvel Studios has been building towards a massive confrontation with Thanos since 2012 in The Avengers. Now that Earth’s Mightest Heroes, and the Guardians of the Galaxy, are finally gearing up to take him down, it seems Marvel is in a bit of a quandary. Obviously they’re not going to just give up on the most successful film franchise of all time, so where do they go from there?
Well, comic fans, you’ve come to the right place for answers. Marvel has a lot of stories to choose from over their 75 year history, but not all of them are right for the big screen. Also, some of our favorite Marvel characters, like Wolverine or the Fantastic Four, have their film rights owned by rival studios, meaning we shouldn’t expect to see them team up with Iron Man or Captain America any time soon.
