James Gunn Confirms When Guardians Of The Galaxy Vol. 3 Will Take Place

Writer/director of the Guardians of the Galaxy films James Gunn revealed a key aspect of the upcoming Vol. 3 and how it ties in to Avengers: Infinity War.

We’re all sort of blindly feeling our way through the dark in the aftermath of the Snappening. Very little is known about the road ahead for the Marvel Cinematic Universe other than Ant-Man and the Wasp, Captain Marvel and the inevitable Avengers 4. Of course most of the new heroes will have their continuing sequels at some point, but how that ties in to the overall story is still a mystery. So it’s no wonder fans are trying everything they can to glean details about these sequels, particularly Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3, one of the most surprisingly popular sub-franchises in all of Marvel. This means going after the mastermind of the first two films himself, James Gunn.

Honestly he hasn’t given much away, but recently James Gunn confirmed at least one detail that will help paint a picture of what the 3rd Guardians film will entail, telling Twitter that the film will definitely take place after the events of Infinity War.

Now anyone who saw IW knows there really aren’t too many Guardians left who aren’t piles of ash, so what this will mean for the story is still a mystery. Apart from literally Nebula and Rocket, all of the other main characters have been erased from existence. This includes Star-Lord, Gamora, Drax, Mantis and of course Groot (that one still stings). Does this mean we’ll get a buddy-cop-style space adventure with Nebula and Rocket kicking names and taking ass? I sure hope so. But we’ll have to wait and see if the original Avengers can fix the MCU timeline and bring back all of our beloved heroes, though there’s still a good chance that fall took out Gamora for good unfortunately.
