James Gunn recently took to Instagram to respond to fans when he seemingly confirmed via his story that the highly anticipated third installment of the Guardians of the Galaxy franchise will not be titled Asgardians of the Galaxy.
The theory that Guardians of the Galaxy Vol.3 would take its name after the Asgardians of the Galaxy comic series became a popular one after the events of Avengers: Endgame led to Chris Hemsworth’s Thor seemingly paired up with the Guardians of the Galaxy for their next adventure. While it seemed like this theory could be the case, director James Gunn seemingly crushed all hope of it when he responded to one fan’s countless messages begging for the film not to be called Asgardians of the Galaxy by simply saying “Don’t Worry.”

After James Gunn’s surprising firing off of Guardians of the Galaxy Vol.3 last summer, the director is officially back on board to direct the project from a script he wrote, thanks to Disney reversing their decision to remove James Gunn for a series of offensive tweets. However, following his temporary exit, James Gunn signed on to write and direct the Suicide Squad sequel for Warner Bros. and DC Films, which he will now shoot before helming Guardians of the Galaxy Vol.3. The Suicide Squad is currently slated to hit theaters on August 6, 2021.
Meanwhile, the entire Guardians of the Galaxy cast including Chris Pratt, Zoe Saldana, Dave Bautista, Vin Diesel, Bradley Cooper, Karen Gillan, Pom Klementieff, Elizabeth Debicki, and Sean Gunn are expected to return. As for Chris Hemsworth, the actor is not yet officially on board but has made it clear he would be down to join the project.
Both Thor and the Guardians of the Galaxy can last be seen in Avengers: Endgame. Here’s the official synopsis:
The grave course of events set in motion by Thanos that wiped out half the universe and fractured the Avengers ranks compels the remaining Avengers to take one final stand in Marvel Studios’ grand conclusion to twenty-two films, “Avengers: Endgame.”
Directed by Anthony and Joe Russo, Avengers:Endgame stars Robert Downey Jr., Chris Evans, Mark Ruffalo, Chris Hemsworth, Scarlett Johansson, Jeremy Renner, Don Cheadle, Paul Rudd, Brie Larson, Karen Gillan, Danai Gurira, Benedict Wong, Jon Favreau, Bradley Cooper, Gwyneth Paltrow, and Josh Brolin.
