James Gunn: “No Real Plans” For ‘Guardians of the Galaxy 3’ Yet

It is hard to believe that Guardians of the Galaxy recently celebrated its second anniversary. I remember standing in line with my friends on the Thursday night it premiered nationwide and once the film concluded with Baby Groot dancing to The Jackson Five’s I Want You Back, I knew that this movie was going to take over the world. And sure enough, it did. James Gunn’s effortlessly entertaining entry in the Marvel Cinematic Universe was beloved by critics and audiences alike, and with the sequel’s production wrapped and ready for post, it’s exciting to see these characters together again on the big screen.

Gunn, who is one of the most actively involved comic book filmmakers in social media recently answered a fan’s question on his Facebook page. This fan asked the director on whether or not there are plans for a Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3. Gunn responded:

There are no real plans, and I haven’t made up my mind yet what I’m doing next.

After working on two big blockbusters in a row, it is understandable that James Gunn is currently uncertain about what his next project would be. Even if he does not wind up directing the third entry in the Guardians saga, I think it is safe to assume that he may still have some input into that narrative. If nothing else, he has laid enough groundwork for what is next to come for this group of misfits, and seeing him tackle a brand new project should excite fans regardless. Gunn is a creative force to be reckoned with.

Set to the backdrop of ‘Awesome Mixtape #2,’ Marvel’s Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 continues the team’s adventures as they traverse the outer reaches of the cosmos. The Guardians must fight to keep their newfound family together as they unravel the mysteries of Peter Quill’s true parentage. Old foes become new allies and fan-favorite characters from the classic comics will come to our heroes’ aid as the Marvel cinematic universe continues to expand.

Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 blasts into theaters on May 5, 2017.

That’s fine. Take your time and make the right decision. It’s not like we knew that GoTG 2 was happening at this stage of the production last time.
