Fret not, Peacemaker fans: James Gunn’s DC Comics series is returning for a second season.

The second season of Peacemaker was not included in the recent DC Universe presentation from James Gunn and Peter Safran, but the series is not dead. Gunn took to official Twitter page to reassure fans that the second season of Peacemaker is coming after the Amanda Waller series and Superman: Legacy.

Peacemaker is a television series created by James Gunn and starring John Cena, who repises his role as Christopher “Chris” Smith, who made his debut in The Suicide Squad. The series premiered on HBO Max in January 2022, and has received positive reviews for its action-packed plot, witty humor and impressive performances from its cast.

Created by writer Joe Gill and artist Pat Boyette, Peacemaker was introduced as a member of Task Force X, a team of supervillains who are sent on a dangerous mission by the government. The character is known for his extreme dedication to peace, even if it means resorting to violence to achieve it. His series picks up right after the events of The Suicide Squad.

The future of the DC Universe

James Gunn and Peter Safran told journalists that their vision for the DC Universe includes locked scripts, wiggle room and a unified storyline across film, television, animation and video game projects. The two explained that the DC Universe could bring back elements from previous DC regimes, meaning that their eight-to-year plan is not a full reboot.

Shazam! Fury of the GodsThe FlashBlue Beetle and Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom are currently in various stages of post-production at Warner Bros. Discovery, with all four DC Universe movies slated to hit theaters in 2023. Will the characters from those movies make appearances in the new DCU? Only Gunn and Safran know.
