The first photos from the set of James Gunn’s Peacemaker reveal two Easter eggs involving Green Lantern and the titular character played by John Cena.

Earlier this month, James Gunn announced that his The Suicide Squad spin-off Peacemaker is now filming in Vancouver. Now, Twitter user “ThemysciraBound” has shared the first photos from the set of the HBO Max series, giving fans a look at John Cena and two Easter eggs connecting it to the larger DC Universe.

The Peacemaker set photos show a parked police car outside of a house, with the cruiser featuring the words “Evergreen Police” and “Charlton County.” In the pages of DC Comics, Evergreen City is the home of Hal Jordan, the iconic member of the Green Lantern Corps. The second bit is a homage to Charlton Comics, which created the Peacemaker character before he was acquired by DC. Check out the photos below.

Details about the plot of Peacemaker are being kept under lock and key. In addition to John Cena, Peacemaker also stars Steve Agee, Danielle Brooks, Robert Patrick, Jennifer Holland, Chris Conrad, Chukwudi Iwuji, Lochlyn Munro, Annie Chang and Christopher Heyerdahl. James Gunn wrote all eight episodes of the series and is directing several of them, including the pilot.

The first Suicide Squad followed a team of supervillains who were recruited by the government for a dangerous black ops mission in exchange for reduced sentences. The ensemble cast included Will Smith as Deadshot, Margot Robbie as Harley Quinn, and Jared Leto as The Joker. However, James Gunn is expected to deliver on a fresh take on the team in his upcoming movie.

Written and directed by James Gunn, The Suicide Squad stars David Dastmalchian, John Cena, Jai Courtney, Joaquín Cosío, Nathan Fillion, Joel Kinnaman, Mayling Ng, Flula Borg, Sean Gunn, Juan Diego Botto, Storm Reid, Pete Davidson, Taika Waititi, Alice Braga, Steve Agee, Tinashe Kajese, Daniela Melchior, Peter Capaldi, Julio Ruiz, Jennifer Holland, Viola Davis, Idris Elba, Margot Robbie, and Michael Rooker.

The Suicide Squad is currently scheduled to hit theaters on August 6, 2021. Stay tuned for all the latest news regarding James Gunn, John Cena and the Peacemaker series, and be sure to subscribe to Heroic Hollywood’s YouTube channel for more original video content.
