James Gunn shared a photo of the Stan Lee-themed birthday gift he received from Marvel Studios executives.
Earlier this month, James Gunn celebrated his 53rd birthday and the filmmaker received a King Shark-themed cake from the team at the production offices of The Suicide Squad. Now, James Gunn has taken to his official Instagram account to share the Stan Lee-themed gift he was given by the executives at Marvel Studios.
As James Gunn explains in the caption included with the photo, Marvel Studios executives, including Kevin Feige, gifted him with a Hot Toys figure of Stan Lee as the informant to the Watchers in Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2. In a heartfelt message of gratitude to the Marvel Studios executives, James Gunn said that he can now remember what he describes as one of his favorite days on set whenever he passes by the Stan Lee figure.

While production on Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 was scheduled to begin early this year, the project was put on hold following the decision to remove Gunn as the director of the final chapter in the trilogy. Now, James Gunn will begin production on the third Guardians of the Galaxy film after completing work on The Suicide Squad for Warner Bros. and DC. Details on the third and final chapter of James Gunn’s Guardians of the Galaxy trilogy are currently unknown, though the film will likely explore the ramifications of the universe-changing events in Avengers: Endgame.
Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 is expected to star Chris Pratt, Zoe Saldana, Dave Bautista, Vin Diesel, Bradley Cooper, Karen Gillan, Pom Klementieff, Elizabeth Debicki, and Sean Gunn.
