Warner Bros.’ line-up of upcoming DC films includes a new take on the Suicide Squad with James Gunn writing and directing the highly-anticipated project. While plot details on The Suicide Squad are currently unknown, it appears the supervillain team’s latest mission will take them out of the country.

ComicBook.com has learned production on James Gunn’s The Suicide Squad will begin in Atlanta, Georgia, this month for a three-month shoot. Then, James Gunn and The Suicide Squad team will head to Panama to continue filming for roughly one month.

Warner Bros. confirmed to ComicBook.com that production will commence this month but did not comment on the locations.

The first Suicide Squad followed a team of supervillains who were recruited by the government for a dangerous black ops mission in exchange for reduced sentences. The ensemble cast included Will Smith as Deadshot, Margot Robbie as Harley Quinn and Jared Leto as The Joker. James Gunn is expected to deliver on the fresh take on the supervillain team in his upcoming movie, with Idris Elba playing a new character, Jai Courtney as Captain Boomerang, Joel Kinnaman as Rick Flag, David Dastmalchian as Polka-Dot Man, Flula Borg, Taika Waititi, and Viola Davis returning as Amanda Waller.

The Suicide Squad will be released in theaters on August 6, 2021.
